As a musician and producer Robert M. Powell has worked with a diverse array of artists from around the world including Sachiko Kanenobu, Clothesline Revival, Titos Sompa, Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, Shafqat Ali Khan & Sukhawat Ali Khan, Airto Moreira and Flora Purim, Deva Premal, Kingfish, Shana Morrison & Caledonia and bluesman Roy Rogers.

Through his work with Amnesty International he has produced and performed on recordings by Peter Gabriel, John Lee Hooker, Jackson Browne and others.

Most of Robert’s recent songs have been released under the band name Everett Tree, a collaborative project with many of the songs co-written with his brother, renowned sculptor, Eric Powell. Everett Tree has released an eponymous EP and numerous singles including re-mixes by various artists. A new album is set for release in early 2026.

“Desert Beach”, an album of “roots-meets-atmospheric" instrumentals was Robert’s first release and features his pedal steel playing along with an array of guitars. This album led to composing for film and television. As a composer Robert has scored numerous films including the award-winning documentaries ‘El Dorado’ (Cine Golden Eagle Award), ‘Forest Through The Trees’ for the Discovery Channel, ‘Texas Gold’ (Best Doc NYC Short Film Festival), ‘Counting Sheep’ (Emmy, Best Doc, Best Cinematography) and the dramatic feature ‘Lady and the Tiger’ along with bassist Rob Wasserman as well as various multi-media projects including the Aladdin game for Disney. Robert’s songs are also featured in various films and streaming series such as ‘Early Edition’ (Netflix).

Robert works primarily out of his recording studio, The Underbelly, in Marin County California.
